Wall Street Journal/Dow Jones to conduct post-conference executive briefing
25 January 2011
INMA just confirmed that the Wall Street Journal/Dow Jones will conduct a post-conference executive briefing on its audience, advertising, brand, and digital strategies for World Congress delegates Wednesday morning, May 18.
The briefing is scheduled at the Sheraton from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and will involve a team of Dow Jones executives walking INMA conference delegates through strategies and best practices.
Each year, INMA aims to provide conference delegates a deep look at a local newspaper. In 2010, we looked at The New York Times. In 2011, we will look at the Wall Street Journal/Dow Jones.
Due to logistics, we’ve chosen to conduct the briefing at the Sheraton.
Many thanks to our friends at the Wall Street Journal/Dow Jones for putting together this inside look at one of the world's great news organisations.
...[more]Congress programme strategy aims for new faces to push innovation and transformation
21 January 2011One of the things that makes INMA different from other industry associations is its willingness to break from orthodoxy. For the INMA World Congress in New York, the programme committee is looking at speakers that meet that reputation.
INMA is actively seeking new voices, new faces, new companies, and new industries to enliven attempts to inject an innovation and transformation spirit into the industry.
INMA is looking for case studies internationally, is looking to the magazine industry, and is looking to authors and innovators who not only see the multi-media destination but understand the traps in the transition.
For the INMA World Congress programme in New York, organisers see a strategy conference aimed at influencing industry discussions – punctuated by practical case studies in the pre-conference Brainsnack Seminar, the post-conference executive briefing featuring a major New York newspaper, and at the conclusion of key points in the plenary session.
Most speakers during the plenary session are designed to help advance industry thinking on key subjects such as strategy, integrated advertising sales, the digital landscape, and culture change.
Watch this space for speaker announcements in the weeks ahead. Most of the programme is expected to be completed by March 1.
...[more]INMA CEO Earl Wilkinson to give 8th annual Newsmedia Outlook address
18 January 2011
When Earl Wilkinson was first asked to address the INMA World Congress eight years ago, the association CEO's instructions from the programme committee were, sketchily, to structure the global INMA conversation in a way digestible for members. The harsh truth was there was little road map. The harsher truth is the presentation marked Wilkinson’s first extemporaneous presentation.
The annual presentation to the INMA World Congress has since become one of the highest-rated aspects of the conference and a reason many delegates stay until the end.
To conclude the World Congress Tuesday afternoon, May 17, in New York, Wilkinson will present what has become his “Newsmedia Outlook” for the year, a presentation that combines stories from his travels, a connect-the-dots approach to industry trend-spotting, and a casual storytelling style developed since organisers pushed him on stage in 2004.
Wilkinson expects the presentation will focus on the seismic shifts in consumer media behaviour, audience management combined with platform management, and the emerging non-traditional advertising opportunities that may be a road map of how to transition from print to multi-media.
...[more]Lessons from past conferences: don’t try to compete with New York
13 January 2011INMA has held several events in New York through the years, and one of the lessons learned was not to try to compete with the “city that never sleeps.”
The conference is designed to provide attendees face time for networking, lots of conference programming, and free time to see the city without missing INMA World Congress activities.
For example:
- Many conference attendees will arrive Saturday, May 14.
- There are no scheduled conference activities Sunday afternoon, May 15. Great time for shopping, strolls in Central Park, and the like.
- The Sunday evening, May 15, welcome reception will be held at the Sheraton from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. — early enough for dinner on the town or even the theater.
- The cocktail reception at the conclusion of the day Monday, May 16, should be completed no later than 6:00 p.m., so plenty of time to see the town.

...[more]Conference registration policies set for 2011
07 January 2011World Congress organisers have set registration policies for the 2011 event.
As always, INMA members receive preferred rates. Non-members are offered the choice between a member rate plus a one-year membership or a higher non-member rate. We want all attendees to not just attend the conference, but enjoy INMA membership throughout the year.
Tickets to the INMA Awards Dinner are sold separately. History shows a higher attendance rate when dinner tickets are not bundled in with the main registration, and it provides further pricing flexibility for attendees.
The earliest registration deadline is March 14, with fees increasing by US$100 increments April 15, April 29, and May 2. This is designed to encourage early registration.
